School Meal Guidelines under the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act

Pasta
Beginning September 2012, we implemented the USDA guidelines for even healthier meals for your kids! In the 2014-2015 School Year, Smart Snacks in schools were implemented offering healthier snack options for students.

Balanced meals are offered to students each school day. Breakfast includes a variety of whole grains, fruit, and milk. Lunch includes whole grains, protein, vegetables, fruit, and milk.

Nutrition Education

In collaboration with Broome-Tioga BOCES Rock on Cafe, the Food and Health Network's Farm to School Program offers a range of activities and assistance in the region. Please contact their team via this link to request land- and garden-based activities and school garden consultations. They focus on building hands-on and social/emotional learning into all of their programs and projects. FaHN looks forward to working with you!

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County also offers a diverse range of nutrition education programming, including Farm to School, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-Ed), and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). Each program focuses on improving overall health of students and targeting obesity prevention by promoting nutritious foods, physical activity, and local NY products. If you are interested in any of these programs for your school, your students, or your organization, please contact the team at 607-677-4920 or [email protected]. CCE Broome looks forward to working with you in the new school year!
